Our goal is to empower legal-age nicotine consumers who don’t quit smoking to change for the better. This is how we will accelerate an end to smoking, the most harmful way to consume nicotine. People who smoke have a variety of needs and preferences. To improve public health, we understand we must meet people where they are. That’s why PMI U.S. offers a range of satisfying smoke-free options to help adults 21+ make the switch from cigarettes and other traditional tobacco products.

ZYN  is an oral nicotine pouch that’s typically placed between the upper lip and gum. At the start of 2025, ZYN became the first nicotine pouch authorized through the Food and Drug Administration’s (U.S. FDA) rigorous premarket tobacco product application pathway, meaning the agency found ZYN  “appropriate for the protection of public health.” Although ZYN nicotine pouches are addictive and not risk-free, the U.S. FDA found that these products have the potential to provide a benefit to adults who smoke cigarettes and/or use smokeless tobacco products that is sufficient to outweigh the risks, including to youth.

IQOS  is a system that consists of an electronic device (IQOS) and a consumable that contains tobacco (HEETS). The device heats the tobacco instead of burning it. The product is addictive and not risk-free, but it significantly reduces the production of and exposure to harmful chemicals compared with cigarettes. Two versions of the product have been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration’s (U.S. FDA) as modified risk tobacco products, indicating that each is “appropriate to promote public health and is expected to benefit the health of the population as a whole.”
